Tales from the road: Scotland PDF Print

Scotland is an excellent case study in best practices for culinary tourism marketing and product development. Many travel guides do a disservice to both tourists and Scoland's incredible food scene by stopping at haggis, Irn Bru and whisky, but there truly is so much more to discover!

Scotland is fortunate enough to be home to top-notch ingredients (such as their incredible summer berries!) which are now incorporated into menus throughout Scotland with increasing regularity - a fact that undoubtedly reflects the considerable work Visit Scotland and its partners have done to promote culinary tourism throughout the country...

You can find out much more about Scotland's food & drink at Visit Scotland's website, www.EatScotland.com , which highlights top rated partners as determined by a sophisticated Quality Assurance Scheme operated by ICTA Board Member Peter Brown's SFQC. The Eat Scotland website makes it easy for residents and visitors alike to find food trails, restaurants and culinary delights with suggestions for do-it-yourself itineraries, packaged tours, featured events and festivals and other visitor attractions. The site also includes a guide to the country's different regional offerings.

Of course no culinary tour to Scotland would be complete without a stop at a whisky distillery, and whisky ambassadors and whisky embassies ensure servers and establishments continue to promote one of Scotland's greatest culinary assets. You can read more the promotion of whisky and Scottish Whisky Embassies at www.ScotlandWhisky.com.

These well-developed culinary tourism product development and marketing programs put Scotland in a class by itself in the world for culinary tourism and help demonstrate its forward thinking commitment to this niche. Scotland's next challenge will be raising its profile on the global culinary map as a hot foodie destination and reaching out to a larger international audience through partnerships and highly targeted promotions.
