Sandy Daswani of A Feast of Mauritius is a woman of many talents: mother of 2, cook, chef/culinary instructor, villa owner/operator and author, she has turned her love of cooking into a passion, and her passion into an art.
In her book "UN CHEF A LA MAISON", which will be
released in French next month and English in
October as "A FEAST OF MAURITIUS", she reveals all the secrets of Mauritian cuisines. An amalgam of French, English, Creole, Indian, Chinese, and Malay cultures, Mauritian cuisine is a real fusion of all these cultures and yet presents a very distinctive character of its own. |

We’re trekking along with the FoodTrekker.com website. The time has come to start populating FoodTrekker.com with local content from YOUR area. We have divided content writing into two areas: 1) Destinations; and 2) Business Reviews. We are now collecting content JUST for the destination portion.
If you would like to help, we have created a "Culinary Culture" template in Microsoft Word that should be pretty easy for you to fill out. We also have an example region to show you Best Practices in what we are looking for. If you are interested in contributing, please email

Do you offer any compensation?
While we cannot pay for your writing, we can give you a byline on FoodTrekker.com. This means that people will know that YOU wrote the content (unless you prefer to ghost write or use an alias). We also link your byline to your user profile on FoodTrekker.com. In this manner, you can be contacted (confidentially of course) by other site users.
Why should I write for FoodTrekker.com?
The biggest benefit in contributing information is helping to promote the unique and memorable foods of your destination and contributing to the economic and community development of your area. This is the ultimate opportunity to connect with other culinary tourists all over the world and share your favorite 'insider tips.'

The Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) South Central Chapter is presenting their 20th annual conference in New Orleans with, appropriately enough, culinary tourism as the central topic. The event is scheduled for August 29-31 and includes the opportunity to help rebuild tourism workers' homes on August 29th, the 2nd anniversary of hurricane Katrina. ICTA Board Member Harold Partain will be presenting one of the sessions. For more information, please download their information sheet here or contact Melody Alijani at

On June 12, ICTA member the Cape Cod Hospitality Marketing Association presented a session entitled "Local Culinary Treasures: Packaging a Culinary Tourism Experience" to their membership. Panelists included Diane Langeland of Edible Cape Cod, Phyllis Cahaly with the Massachusetts Office of Tourism, fellow ICTA members Alice Pitcher & Tom Dott of the Lamb & Lion Inn (pictured at left), and our own Project Coordinator Melanie Soules.
The event, held at the beautiful Wequassett Inn, drew over 70 attendees and exhibitors including Truro Vineyards, Nantucket Gourmet, the Islands Cultured Shellfish, and Cranberry Harvest Inc to name a few. Attendees were given lots of time for valuable networking and partnership-building (and fed well of course!). Highlighted topics included notable Cape Cod culinary tourism experiences, the importance of partnerships and working together, and how Cape Cod fits into the larger culinary tourism industry. |

Vice President Melody Johnson joined ICTA member Fredericksburg Convention & Visitor Bureau in up-and-coming culinary tourism hotspot Texas Hill Country for a National Tourism Week Luncheon on the subject. The event was an astounding success, attracting over 100 attendees who learned more about what culinary tourism is and how it can benefit their business.
The Culinary Tourism ToolBox Talk Workshop held the following day drew over 35 attendees, who discussed in greater detail how to promote Fredericksburg's unique culinary assets and develop additional culinary tourism opportunities.

The group decided that of the area's many treasures, standouts that could set them apart for culinary tourism were undoubtedly their many fine bed & breakfasts, peaches, lavender and wine.
The area is already working together strongly to promote Fredericksburg lavender season, which lasts from mid-May through June. The season is kicked off by the annual Becker Vineyards Lavender Festival and followed by several lavender-themed promotions including a Lavender Trail to five local lavender farms. Restaurants also 'get in the mix' by incorporating lavender into their inventive seasonal menus.
For more information about Fredericksburg or the Lavender Festival, please see www.hillcountryinfo.com and www.villatexas.com. |
